The icon of London 2012, set the standard for sustainable stadium design.
Today I was able to get access to the Olympic park by using my friend Zacks second ticket he had for today. Thanks Zack.

Since LOCOGs final push to win the 2012 bid, sustainability has been at the heart of their task. The crown jewel of the sustainability efforts is the Olympic Park. The park will re-open in 2013.

Getting to walk around and take in the sights at the Olympic Park was spectacular. The open spaces were all landscaped with a wide array of plants and trees. About 5 mini wind turbines were providing renewable energy for the park. Sponsor pavilions were all unique and allowed for some cool interactive experiences outside of the events. Plenty of food courts offered meals from many countries. Though the sun was hiding behind the clouds, the park is and will be a bright spot for London to enjoy for many years to come. Below are some green highlights of the park.

4000  plus semi-mature trees were planted.
74000 plants were placed in the ground.
60000 flowers were planted.
300000 wetland plants will provide habitat and nutrients to the Lea Valley River flowing through the park.
The basketball arena will be re-used at a site elsewhere in Great Britain after the games.
The Olympic Stadium has 50,000 removable seats. It's design is innovative in helping to ensure use for non Olympic level competition in the future.
